The Visual Arts Society of Texas coordinates a number of exhibitions each year. Each exhibition contributes uniquely to the mission and goals of VAST. An overview of each exhibition is provided on this page. For information about a specific exhibition, please select the appropriate link from the Exhibitions menu.
Exhibition funding is provided in part by entry fees and grants from our Grants Sponsors. In addition, VAST receives generous cash and merchandise awards from local individuals, businesses, and national fine artist materials companies. Often referred to as the "Spring Show," the Visual Arts Society of Texas (VAST) sponsors this annual event to encourage visual artists, to promote excellence and diversity in the arts, and to increase the awareness and appreciation of art in the Greater Denton community. This exhibition is generally housed in the Meadows Gallery at the Center for the Visual Arts in Denton.
VAST created this exhibition to reinstate our long tradition of showcasing 2D and 3D juried art work from DFW to southern Oklahoma. Artists living within 125 miles of Denton, TX are eligible to enter this exhibition. This exhibition is generally housed in the East and West Galleries in the Fine Arts Building at Texas Woman’s University in Denton.
VAST Members Exhibition
VAST sponsors this annual event to offer its members an important opportunity to enter their work in a juried exhibition that showcases members only. The exhibit provides an excellent venue for the North Texas community to appreciate the high quality and diverse nature of art produced by area artists. In 2011, this exhibition will be in the Cora Stafford Gallery at the University of North Texas in Denton.
VAST Calendar Exhibition
Each year VAST produces a calendar, one of our major fundraisers, featuring juried work by our members. VAST coordinates an exhibition of original works as a benefit to the calendar artists. This exhibition is generally held at The Chestnut Tree on the historic Denton square.
VAST collaborates with the Denton Poets’ Assembly and the Denton Public Libraries to create an annual exhibit of paired original art work and poetry in celebration of National Poetry Month. The exhibit opens April 1 at the Denton Public Libraries and is accessible to the public free of charge during regular library hours.
VAST collaborates with the Denton Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to mount an annual exhibition in conjunction with Fiesta-on-the-Square. The exhibition of works based on a Latino theme features 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional pieces by VAST members. The exhibition, housed on the first floor of Denton’s Historic County Courthouse, is open to the public during the hours of the Fiesta.
Local Revolving Exhibitions
VAST members have several opportunities to exhibit work locally. Barnes & Noble Booksellers (B&N); Emily Fowler, South Branch, and North Branch Denton Public Libraries; The Chestnut Tree; Beth Marie's Old Fashioned Ice Cream (on the square); and The Blackbox Theater are all hosting exhibits. Any member of VAST may exhibit two-dimensional work at any of these locations. Please contact the Executive Director or any member of the Board of Directors for specific information.
