Judy Uebelacker at Tellkamp's Show in Denison | Enjoying painting and sketching was a part of my childhood. As I raised my children, textile design and other creative projects were the means by which I contributed to the support of the family. My ability to work with color and design contributed also to my achieving recognition as a face and body painter specializing in Mardi Gras mask designs and detailed body art. These experiences influenced my painting and at this point I further developed my techniques with fine art studies at the Art Academy of Dallas and in numerous workshops with, nationally and internationally, known artists. Until this point, I had been largely self-taught. Travel has added significantly to my inspiration, and I find myself attracted by the colors and vibrancy of New Orleans, as well as areas of Mexico and India. My paintings begin with a choice of colors. As the work progresses forms and patterns in the painting pull images from my subconscious beyond the powers of my imagination. |
