May Speaker of the Month – Sarah Ayala
May 5, 2021 @ 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm
Artist Statement:
Sarah Ayala lives and creates in the Fort Worth Cultural District. She is an artist rooted in the
community who aims to make art more accessible to the public. Sarah’s work draws inspiration
from world philosophies as well as her Latinx culture. She specializes in detailed processes like
mandala patterns and hand lettering. Sarah has combined this style with the rich history of
cartography, using maps as a way to speak about an experience of a region. Her work can be
found throughout Fort Worth’s walls, as well as within local and national art collectives or
working closely in collaboration with community partners and institutions.
Presentation:
The presentation will explore and discuss the history, psychology, and meditative benefits of the
mandala. Learn the rich story of the design throughout the ages on every continent and its use
within psychotherapy. Create your own mandala after detailed instructions, with no
previous art experience required.
