This calendar must be adhered to in its entirety and exceptions will not be made for any reason. Note: GDAC staff will not accept or return your work to you. VAST charges $5.00 per day for work left after specified deadlines for picking up exhibited work.

VAST publishes a catalog with photographs of all accepted work. Each artist will receive a copy of the catalog at the opening reception.

GDAC receives a 30% commission for any work sold during the exhibition. Work must remain on display during the entire exhibit.

VAST and GDAC take all responsible precautions to protect works accepted into the exhibition. Neither group will be responsible for any loss or damage.

The 125-Mile Exhibition was initiated in 2006 to establish a regional high quality juried art exhibition for artists living within a 125-mile radius of Denton, Texas to compete and show their work at the Gough Gallery in the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, 400 E. Hickory, Denton, TX 76201.

2D and 3D work including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, fiber, graphics, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewelry, metalworking, and wood. No installations.

All artwork must be original, not a copy of a painting or another image. No mechanical reproductions of original work. Only work completed in the last 36 months will be accepted.


  • Wall-mounted work must be framed and ready for secure installation
    • framed work must have d-rings on the back stretched with braided wire (no saw-tooth hangers)
      • fiber pieces/quilts must have a hanging apparatus able to hang from 1 or 2 nails (e.g. a rod pocket with dowel)
      • other wall-mounted pieces (glass, ceramic, metal, etc.) must have a secure hanging apparatus able to hang from 1 or 2 nails
  • Bumpers required for framed pieces
  • 40” maximum width dimension for 2D work
  • 70 lbs. maximum weight for 2D and 3D work
  • White or off-white mats only
  • Works on canvas must either be framed or have clean, finished gallery-wrapped edges
  • Artist name and title of work must be clearly indicated on the back of the work

Work must not have been exhibited in any previous VAST juried exhibition. Solutions to difficult installations are the artist’s responsibility and must be handled through VAST.

NOTE: VAST and the Juror reserve the right to reject any work that is not accurately represented by the digital image or is not in compliance with entry regulations. Accepted works may be subject to a second review at the request of the Juror. VAST and GDAC will not be held responsible for damage to work resulting from improper or inferior framing/presentation.

Artists may submit up to three entries at a non-refundable fee of $20/Students, $30/Members, and $35/Non-members. Only one artwork per person may be selected for the Exhibit.

Entry form and fee must be submitted online by midnight on November 10, 2017.

The initial judging will be done from submitted digital images. All digital images must adhere to the resolution and size requirements.

Digital images must be in JPEG format with 300 pixels/inch resolution and a width and/or height of 1800 pixels/6 inches on the longest side. Only those digital images conforming to these specifications will be accepted.

Images of accepted entries will become property of VAST to be used for the catalog and other printed material, archives, website, and for educational purposes.

The 2018 exhibition will be held in the Gough Gallery in the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, located at 400 E. Hickory St., Denton, TX, 76201.

Cynthia (Cindy) Hurt, artist and writer, received her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of North Texas in 1977. She is a tenured Associate Professor of Art at Tarrant County College North East Campus in Hurst, Texas. Since 1977 she has exhibited at the Dallas Museum of Art, Longview Museum of Art, Arlington Museum of Art, Laguna Gloria Art Museum in Austin, the Museum of Art of the American West in Houston, Texas, Joslyn Art Museum, Fort Worth Community Arts Center, the McKinney Avenue Contemporary in Dallas, Dallas Visual Art Center, Arkansas Art Center in Little Rock, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at Dallas, University of Dallas, Texas Christian University, Eastfield, Richland, Mountain View, Brookhaven and Cedar Valley College in Dallas County, Tarrant County College North East Campus in Hurst Texas, Texas A&M University  Corpus Christi, Dallas Women’s Gallery, Bob Lukeman’s studio, 829 Exposition, 500X, Moss Chumley Gallery, and Dallas City Hall.

Her writing is published in Art PapersArt LiesSculpture Magazine, and in exhibition brochures at the University of Texas at Arlington and The John Berggruen Gallery in San Francisco.
